  • 1.  LiveUpdate not updating components after Rapid Release installation.

    Hello,

We had nastly little virus cripple us on New Years Eve. With the help of Symantec, we installed and deployed a Rapid Release and it managed to clean the virus and patch our firewall so that it could not replicate and update and blocked the internet sites it used to communicate stolen information.
However, since we deployed the rapid relase, none of our client machines or servers including the managment server have updated. I manually run LiveUpdate and it says all definitions are updated and installed, but they still read Thursday, December 31, 2009 r117. I manually downloaded the current definitions from symantec and installed it on all the GUP's and Management Servers, and then tried to run live update again, but still the client machines are not updating.
Is there something I am missing? Is there a lock file that when you use the RR, it does not allow the LU to download current defs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are not alone. Read this post. Apparently Symantec is still working on a fix but the good news is that you are protected with the latest version, it just doesnt display the correct date.

Your SEP/SEM is working as designed, but there's a little issue going on with that design.
You have the latest defs, see the thread, all 3 pages of it, Frank posted the link to.
As long as you see the REVISION going up each day, once a day, it's working..............

As far as I got of your post, it seems you have three issues:
1-      The update date goes no later than 31 Dec 2009
2-      The live update does not function properly
3-      The Clients do not receive the updates
    Solutions:
1-      This is a known issue after the 31st Dec 2009 afterward. But if you cast a look on the revision, it is being increased which is the current solution that Symantec is using. Means the clients and server have the latest updates despite the date is not up to date. Don’t worry, it will be solved ASAP
2-      If you are sure that the live update is not functional, one of the best solutions is the following steps:
    a.       Uninstall the Liveupdate
    b.      Restart
    c.       Install the liveupdate again
    d.      Go to the folder where Symantec Endpoint Protection is installed, in the “bin” folder run the Lucatalog.exe twice: first time with switch “-cleanup”, and the second time with “-update” (Lucatalog -cleanup, Lucatalog -update)
    e.      Run the Luall.exe to retrieve the latest updates.
3-      If the clients do not receive the updates from server, there are several reasons. I advice do a research on the subject in the forum or raise another ticket.
