  • 1.  LiveUpdate policy for "internal" AND "external" server

    Posted Jun 04, 2009 12:17 PM
    Hi!

If i understand this lu policy right...

    LiveUpdate server settings:
[x] Use the default management server
[x] Use a specified internal liveupdate server

-> First of all SEP-Clients use the (internal) Management-Server (SEPM) -> Next the specified internal liveupdate server -> Right?

Now, if i would configure (specify) an "internal" server, with the external url of the symantec lu server in addition...

SEP-Client would try: -> Management-Server (if not available) -> internal liveupdate server (if not available) -> external symantec lu server ???

If this works in this way... which url should i use for Symante "external" LU-Server.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

The Symantec external server is "http://liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com:80/"

     1. Inter Liveupdate that is SEPM
    2. Symantec Liveupdate ( by default internet at above specified web link and port )
You can configure it so that first it will go to LUA then second priority you can set for internet

However in this scenario it looks SEPm is also downloading defs and LUA is also downloading defs ..So you can directly configure SEPM to get the updates from LUA and second priority you can give to internet.
So in this case you can leave all client configurations default
SEPM will either get defs from LUA if not it will connect to Internet to get the updates.

it's work really ??, i made a call at symantec for same problem and the told me to create a new site with a new lu policy (internet) and i use as condition for this site "if sep manger not available ".
so when the client can not connect to sepm it belongs to another site with liveupdate in internet

    what is the best?

    thanks

    Hi Pierre,

To be honest I know that if the "use the default server" and "use LiveUpdate servers (internal or external)" are both enabled, the clients will check both of them without any priority.
The complexity of the SEP architecture depends by the level of reliability you need and the size of the company.
In most of situation I believe your implementation is enough reliable, easy to manage and with good performaces.
