Everytime the scheduled job of the SEP Live Update server download new updated definition files is run, the amount of data downloaded always reaches 500 Mb. Although it is scheduled during wee hours of the morning, it is still consuming high amount of traffic. Is there a way to configure the server to minimize the download data and maximize the internet bandwidth?

First you should check the product selection which you have done for the download. Remove the products which you are not needed on your network, Also check the language of the product which you are downloading. There one feature known as bandwidth throttling which you can configure. 

Kindly observe it for a day and see if it makes any difference or not.

Create a new scheduled download without software updates

1. In LiveUpdate Administrator, click Download & Distribute.
2. Click Add Download.
3. Type in a name and description for the scheduled download.
4. Under Select Products, click Add.
5. Select the product that you want LiveUpdate Administrator to download.
6. Click Add.
7. Under Select Product Components, select Other Software Updates, and click << Remove.
8. Choose the appropriate Test Status.
Note that you must have a test group already set up and an established testing process in place if you want to have the updates tested.
9.  Under Select Schedule, choose how often you want LiveUpdate Administrator to check for content updates from its source server.
10. Click OK.

Monitor the download size then..

What was the initial daily download size, did it recently increase to 500MB? If this is the case, then your LUA db is corrupted and a reinstall is required.

About LUA:
- Do not cancel any jobs
- Do not let the installation disks to fill up, a full disk causes database corruption

It is possible to decrease the daily download size down to 20-25 MB if you're only updating SEP clients through this LUA server. I've done it through this document :
