  • 1.  Loading Altiris Agent on a Vista machine

I have an image created for a Lenovo M57e desktop on the DS. This image has XP on it as my company has not gone to Vista yet. Out of the box the Lenovo come with Vista. I am able to add the device to the network, but when I attempt to deploy the Altiris Agent to the Vista box, I get an error on the Vista box stating the version of windows is not compatible with Altiris and the agent does not load. Without the agent I am unable to add the image to the Vista box. Any ideas on how to add the Altiris Agent to a Vista box? Thanks in advance for your help.

Which version of DS are you using? Vista uses a different agent than XP does. I believe the Vista agent is called DAgent. I suspect you may be trying to load the XP AClient agent instead of the DAgent. You can find the DAgent in the express\agent\Aclient folder of your DS. Current DAgent we have on our server is 6.9.164

The other thing you can do is to predefine the laptop in your DS and assign the XP image deploy to it. When the laptop restarts into PXE then you can just select the predefined name and it'll image the laptop for you. Let me know if you need help with predefining computers in DS.

I'm having issues with Server 2008 (Vista Kernel) as well. Using the remote agent installer, the agent deploys out to the machine, and seemingly runs fine on the machine, but the machine never appears in the Altiris Deployment Console. The current version of DAgent I have is build 164 as well. Background: I just downgraded. I had everything fine with Server 2008 doing sysprep images and deployment, then all of a sudden the agents wouldn't report back anymore. The issue may have originally occurred when I install the latest hotfixes for DS 6.9 (including upgrading the version of AClient, DAgent, and a few others).

One solution I've seen working before is pushing the DS client again to the PCs that are not reporting. I had some PCs that were showing off line even though they were up and running. They reported fine once I re-pushed the client on them.

Yeah, these particular agents, DAgents, have never reported in. It was working at one point, but any new instances of DAgent (in the last couple of months) don't report in. I've tried many times reinstalling them....

Check for the following things: 1) Is the DS Client blue or white in the sys tray - just to make sure it has connection to the DS-? 2) try disabling ANY firewalls on those PCs. 3) Check you license count. If you have retired PCs then clear the licenses and use it for the other PCs. 4) Check to see if the settings for the Agent require Key Authentication tot he Server were no Key is installed on your DS.

Hi mabdelnabi, Thanks so much for your help. I checked the DAgent log file, and I am getting this message in there. Nothing else shows.... [09/30/2008 17:51:18.531 2948 0] SendUpdateComputer.cpp:114 - SendUpdateComputer::HandleMessage() - NIC info threw, will not report NICs. [09/30/2008 17:51:19.750 3080 0] ReplyUpdateComputer.cpp:150 - CheckDsVersion - DS Did not return Version String [09/30/2008 17:51:19.750 3080 0] ReplyUpdateComputer.cpp:151 - CheckDsVersion - DS Version assumed to be incompatible Any ideas as to what can be causing this? I have checked your listed items. No firewall, the icon is blue, but still nothing shows in DS console, license count is good, and no to key authentication. I have verified that my AClient agents are working fine. I was also able to install the AClient on Server 2008, but it is not sysprepping the operating system. I suspect that DAgent is needed for this.
