I just did a Windows Domain rename this weekend and it seems ALTIRIS doesn't like it.

We are useing deployment solution 6.8 with sp2 on a windows 2003 server when I try to logon I get a Logon Failure: unknown user name or bad password.

I have tried several different account with the same results.

Can you use a local administrator account on that server to logon?  If so, then you might be able to change the permission levels in the console that way.

I'm sure you have your reasons, but renaming a domain name is never a pretty process, so my question has got to be "WHY?"

No I can't use the local Admin account, is there some back door?

Actually the rename went real smooth except for the deployment server. The college I work for change their name, so I was told to change the domain, luckily for my test lab I worked out the kinks..well except for one:)

If you're maintenance is up to date, you might need to contact Altiris/Symantec to see if they have something for you.

In the future, though, I would create a backdoor local account in DS that you can get into in these situations.

To do this, you would click on "Tools" and then click on "Security".

Under manage users  you would click "Add" and then create a local, or "DS", account.  Make sure to add it to any appropriate groups.  That way if something ever happens with your domain (whether the name changes, domain controllers go down, etc.) you have a backup way of getting into reset the rights.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help though.
