  • 1.  Managed Software Delivery - Dependent tasks

    Posted Oct 13, 2010 05:20 AM

I’m hoping someone will be able to help.

I have an issue with Managed Software Delivery Policies not running dependent tasks.

For example, in my software resource under the ‘Associations’ tab, I select the ‘Association Type’ ‘Depends On’ and add an association under ‘Software resources that this software resource depends on’ and save it. The I go back to my Managed Software Delivery Policy and ass the software resource to the policy, the dependencies appear under ‘dependent tasks’ .

When this policy is run on the client it check compliancy, downloads and install in the correct manner, but, If I choose the option Software resources that depend on this software resource’ under the ‘Associations’ tab and check the managed delivery policy, the dependencies never appear under ‘dependent tasks’

I’ve checked all of KB and connect, but haven’t managed to find any articles relating to this as an issue.

Has anyone else had this issue or know of a workaround?

You have to update the policy every time you make a change in the Software Library.

There is a checkbox for each dependant within the policy under the actual software resource.

    Hope this helps.

As I mentioned, it 'doesn't appear in the policy, not even if you remove the task and add it again once you've updated the resource.

I have created many software policies without any problems, have you installed the latest version of SMP and Software Management?

And you don't get this from within the policy:

We have the latest versions of SMP and Software Management, and as specified we only get this if we select '‘Software resources that this software resource depends on’ , if on the other hand we choose 'Software resources that depend on this software resource’  we don't get any dependencies showing and therefore no tick boxes. It just says Dependency Tasks with no + or - to expand\contract

It is clear that I haven't managed to communicate the issue very well and I'm hoping this is why I've had no luck resolving this, so I thought I'd add some screenshots so that you may understand better what is happening:

If, as above, we choose Association Type: Depends On

'Software Resources that this software resource depends on: (see options chosen above)

    This is the resultant policy:

    but........

    If we have:

     Association Type : Depends On

Software Resources that depend on this software resource: (see screenshot below)

Then......this is how the resultant policy looks:, i.e. No dependency Tasks appear in the policy

Does anyone know what me might be doing wrong or know how to fix this issue?

    Many thanks in advance.
