    Hello,

I am not sure if I am posting in the correct forum or not. The server I am running is a Management console server licensed for Endpoint management so hopefully this is the right ball park at least.

I am having an issue with my Symantec Management Console lagging quite a bit. It seems to be especially bad while I am doing Patch Management and trying to select and manipulate multiple patches at a time. It is possible that considering the nature of the program and the 20+ patches I am trying to manipulate I just need to practice a little more patience but it would be nice to find out where I am waiting.

    So far I have:

Verified CPU and Memory, and network usage on the server that runs our SMC.

Verified CPU and Memory and network usage on the server (a different server) running our SQL database (Microsoft SQL 2005).

I am by no means an expert in this situation. And the server deployment is fairly new so before I let my manager and the other tech form opinions about the software and it's performance I would like to iron out some issues.

    Thanks!

    trevor,

have you tried looking at the standard SQL conters (as well as the standard windows counters you mentioned) in perfMon?
    Were they saying anything interesting?

because it has to download and perform a lot of work.  But there is probably more going on here than just that.  My guess is you have other performance issues and this one is simply "bringing them out" if that makes sense.  For instance:

    • Many new users of the product don't understand how Task scales
    • Many don't configure SQL optimally (eg, using full recovery instead of simple).
    • Many don't recognize the results of using a minimum configuration.

The list can go on.  Personally, I'd probably recommend a call, or possibly a search through the KB to find articles on performance tuning in the SMP.  But that's just my 2 cents.
