  • 1.  Manual file encryption with Symantec Endpoint Encryption

    Posted Dec 12, 2014 09:28 AM

I was a happy user of PGP Desktop, but forced to move to Windows 7. My version of PGP Desktop does not run on Windows 7. I understood that PGP encryption is now included in Symantec Endpoint Encryption. So I downloaded the trial version 11.0.0. This resulted in a lot of installation packages, which all seem to be related to Endpoint Encryption. Which one contains manual single file encryption ? Or is it still possible to freely download a PGP desktop version 9.12 or higher, which seems to be working on Windows 7 ? I cannot find that on the Symantec website.

    Thanks for your answer.

Symantec Endpoint Encryption has been integrated with PGP Encryption for the full disk and removable storage pieces of the product.  It sounds like you would want to get Symantec Encryption Desktop (formerly PGP Desktop).

Go here and select Free Trial:
    http://buy.symantec.com/estore/categoryDetailPage/productCode/PGP-FSE-EXP-LEM_Vx_12MO_PC/skuType/Product/tab/b

That should be what you are looking for as far as file encryption.

thank you for your answer. I think indeed this is what I am looking for. However the link does not lead me to that product. I cannot find it on the Symantec site at all. If I google it, I get as latest result an article about release of a new version of the product in June 2014. But no reference to an option for downloading it. I chatted with a sales person of Symantec and her last answer was : "That specific solution is not currently available through the estore. I would recommend contacting a Symantec Partner using our Partner Locator tool (it can be found at partnerlocator.symantec.com )". This tool does not seem to allow searching for a specific product. My conclusion thus far is that the product seems to exist, but it is not sure that it can be bought or downloaded anywhere.
