  • 1.  Migrate from 12 32bit to 14 64bit, is disaster recovery the way?

    Posted Apr 20, 2017 01:56 PM

    Hi All,

Just simple question. I need to migrate my SEPM 12 (w2k8 32bit) to 14 (w2k8r2 64bit). My plan is to:

    1. backup database from and cert from old 12 (32bit), i have ca 400 PCs in database, all W7 64bit in AD.

    2. install fresh 12 (64bit), recover database from old one on it

    3. upgrade 12 (64bit) to 14 (64bit)

    Will it work?

Or maybe sholud I make it in quite different way? Maybe someone have some experience with that and can share it?

    Yes, these steps should work.

Hi, After the first step, decommission the first sepm and make sure that the new system on which you are migrating has same IP and host name. The n you are good to go for further procedure.

    Hi again :)

    - installed new  SEPM 12 64bit server, the same name and IP like old one

    -  restore database from old one was successful,

    - unfortunately clients are not on-line, when i'm trying to estabilish connection from client i get HTTP-Error 407.

Is it possible that should i make sth with cert? (i have backup from old one server, actually it is working stilll but without network :) )

Did you put back the cert? that should enabled the communication

You can push the new communication using the remote push option from SEPM console

Hi, Thank you Rafeeq, finally it works, i was imported incorrect cert during restore.

But what is quite... strange: i got recovery_timestamp.zip file from old one server, it was created few months ago when server was updated... my question now: what happen when i have clear installed server, which was never updated... and then i want to restore that server on another machine? How i can get that recovery_timestamp.zip file? Is there a way to create it manually?

No , those are created automatically, even if u uninstall sepm accidentally, the .zip files will be present

And also addition recovery files are created or stored when you upgrade or if any change in configuration https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH162311.html
