  • 1.  Migrating SEPM 11.x. to SEPM 12.x(Different hostname and IP address)

Hi Guys, this is first time i'm meddling with Symantec Anti virus. Following is the situation.

The current SEPM(11.x) server is running low on resource and hence they prepared another server with new host name and IP. The old SEPM server will be decommisioned. The new server will be running on SEPM 12.x

    My concern is as following:

    1) Can i backup the policies and exclusion to the new server and how do i that as SEPM versions are different.

    2) Since the new server is on new Host and IP, the old agents won't be communcating back, Does this mean this is a fresh installation? and this installation will overwrite the current SEP agents in endpoint or the old SEP agents need to uninstalled before installing the new SEP versions.

yes you can simply export the policies and import them into your new SEPM.

there are many ways with which you can migrate your clients. first if you shed some more light on your environment we can suggest the best way to proceed.

    1) Can i backup the policies and exclusion to the new server and how do i that as SEPM versions are different. - You can export the Polices directly from the SEPM 11 and inmport them directly to the SEPM 12 this would have to be done one at a time. SO if you have lots of group structure and policies could take some time. Then The policeies would need a slight review if you want to lock down the newere elements of SEP 12 as by default these are not locked down by symantec.

    2) Since the new server is on new Host and IP, the old agents won't be communcating back, Does this mean this is a fresh installation? and this installation will overwrite the current SEP agents in endpoint or the old SEP agents need to uninstalled before installing the new SEP versions. - You can use the sylink communications wizard from the SEPM 12 to push new comms packages to the machines to simply repoint them. If you have a password set to replace the communications sylink when you use the wizard you will need to put in the password and then if you export a list of machine names from the old SEPM to a notepad text file you can just use that list in the wizard to export to all the machines and repoint them. Or use the seperate sylink drop tool.

    Hi,

There are three scenarios you can do based on your setup and requirements - you can have a read at this article which should get you started:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-move-sepm-one-server-another-server

This might be of a help too - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH224034.html

    Good luck!
