  • 1.  Moving clients to new server

Hi. We're running Symantec AV 10.1 and we now want to move the system center to a new win2003-server and get rid of the old one. We have about 35 win xp clients that we manage in the system. What would be the right steps to install the system center and move the clients?

    Sincerely /Don

If you have a new machine at your disposal, install SEP Manager, configure it and deploy the package to your SAV clients. The package will automatically uninstall SAV10 and install SEP 11 on them.

When all clients have been upgraded, uninstall SSC.

In the MR4 installation guide you can find a chapter about migrating to SEP from SAV beginning at page 131. Just read through it as it discusses the pitfalls (e.g. disabling scheduled scans etc.).

    Good luck!

    Dries

    Hi,

If you want to stick with SAV 10.1, then first install secondary server to the new machine, promote it to be the primary and transfer all the clients to it. It's important to use the same version that the old primary is!! System Center Console is just a console and can be installed anywhere, but the SAV server is the more important component. After all the clients have been moved to the new server, you have checked that the new server has the same settings as the old did and everything seems to work, you can shut down the old server.

We'd like to stick with the old version for now, so thanks a lot Jukka!
