  • 1.  Moving SEPM to another server.

    Posted Jul 28, 2014 10:13 AM

I currently have a single SEPM 12.1.4 server with a off box database on a separate SQL server.  We need to replace the old hardware SEPM server with two new servers.  I have done plenty of reading and it seems like there are multiple ways of getting this done.

The first is to install the first new server as a replication partner.  Change the server list and priorities making the new server priority 1 and letting the clients switch over.  Then decommision the old SEPM server and add the second new server as an additional SEPM server to an existing site.  I'm a little concerned since I read that if I remove the original server in a replication setting, I will not be able to use replication again.  Also it seems like it might make a local copy of the database on the second server?  I'm not sure how this would play out with an external SQL database.

The second option might be to just add the first new server as an addicion server to an existing setup.  Set the server priorities and let the clients get the new server list.  Once the clients get the list decommicion the old server and bring up the new one.  My concern here is that once I remove the original server, the new server won't have all of the settings and functions as the original.

Somebody out there has certainly been through this before...  Any suggestions?  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

If you setup replication, everything will migrate over. You may have to leave the old SEPM on for awhile until clients switch over. If you can do that great, otherwise you would need to the replace sylink file to get them over.

Do you need replication or move to single new SEPM server?

if there is no need to additional sepm, then follwo the disaster recovery

    install new sepm,

    put back the db

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

Replication is an option, if you do replication and remove the old server that is the Primary SEPM, in future if you want to do replication you will not be able to do so.

New SEPM will have the same hostname & IP address or It will have differnt hostname & IP address?

Using the same IP s going to be a problem.  Might be able to use the same hostname.  I was told that I can add the new server as an additional server to the existing site.  THen I can modify the server list and move the clients over that way.  Once I am sure they are moved then I can decommision the old server.

Right, You can add the new server as an additional server to the existing site. Then modify the server list and move the clients over that way.

This is the easiest way you to recover the SEPM.

In this case need to use new IP and new hostname.

Chetan Savade is correct, but please make sure ALL your SEP client get new profile before shutdowning the old SEPM.

    HI

Make sure you have installed same version of SEPM on both server and have backup of the db through SQl program .
