  • 1.  Moving the Start menu folder (reborn because this was never fixed)

    I'm having the same issue that was discussed in this thread:

    http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/moving-start-menu-folder

    In it, a "symentec employee" Paul suggests the user to "select to not place an icon on the Start Menu, then create your own shortcut wherever you want it."

    However he gives no instructions for doing this. The installer file I get from my school does not give my any option to uncheck or unselect the creation of the start menu shortcuts.

    Furthermore, if ever I delete that start menu folder, symentec will enter into an endless state of "configuring itself" every time it is opened or ran.

    This was also discussed here, with no real solution as far as I can tell:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/please-wait-while-windows-configures-symantec-endpoint-protection

    I demand a true solution vis a vi LiveUpdate. I see no reason why a simply check box to remove start menu shortcut dependencies can't be added to the software. THERE'S no reason why a piece of software should be dependent on start menu shortcuts - considering how fickle and meaningless they are in the first palce!

    The option is there in the setAid.ini file

    If you have just got 1 single file. Then I would say extract that exe using Win Rar or win Zip then edit the setAid.ini file and change the value of start menu to 0

    AddProgramIntoStartMenu=0
