    Hi -

I bought a new computer (MacBook Air running OSX El Capitan - version 10.11.6) and installed a time machine backup which had my old company's symantec endpoint protection software installed and I'm trying to fully uninstall it.

I tried the SymantecRemovalTool but I still see the yellow circle with a checkmark in my computer's utility bar. When I click on that and try to open live update or symantec endpoint, nothing happens and when I select QuickMenu it's fully disabled/greyed out.

I called customer support and they let me know I needed to do a cleanwipe, but because I don't have an active contract, they instructed me to reach out and request the CleanWipe download here.

    Thanks,

    Arisa

Cleanwipe isn't publicly available. You can download from FileConnect using your serial number or support will provide you a download link:

Uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection with the CleanWipe utility

And cleanwipe is only for Windows based machines.

    For Mac, try this:

Remove Symantec software for Mac OS using RemoveSymantecMacFiles

    The download link is provided.

As I mentioned in my post, support directed me here and I didn't know cleanwipe was only for Windows since support failed to mention that even though I gave them my OS info. As I also already mentioned in my post I did try the removal and as shown in my screenshot, the Symantec icon remains in my utility bar even though it opens noting and leads to a disable state in the system preferences. I still need help figuring out how to fully wipe this software from my system.

I don't know why support sent you here for cleanwipe since they should know it's not publicly available (and only for Windows).

SymantecRemovalTool is not the same as RemoveSymantecMacFiles. Did you try RemoveSymantecMacFiles?

There is another option, which you can find here:

How to uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macintosh.

Do you have access to the SEP_MAC folder?

Unfortunately, the problem is since you don't have an active support contract, Symantec support won't be of use.

    Hello,

Try downloading the Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.6_MP5_Full_Installation_EN from Fileconnect / Flexnetoperations website:

    https://symantec.flexnetoperations.com/control/symc/registeranonymouslicensetoken

Once you have the Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.6_MP5_Full_Installation_EN downloaded and extracted, you can go to SEP_Mac folder with Symantec Uninstaller.app and Symantec Uninstaller.pkg

These would assist you with uninstallation of Symantec Endpoint Protection from your Mac machine.

    Regards,

    Hi,

There is an uninstaller included on the Symantec Endpoint Protection installation media; look under SEP_MAC, for SymantecUninstaller.English.tgz. Copy this file to the local Mac client and double-click on it to expand. Inside are two items: Symantec Uninstaller (which is the actual uninstaller), and SymantecUninstaller.pkg (which will actually install the Uninstaller to your hard drive; installing the Uninstaller is not necessary). The Uninstaller is intended for all Symantec products on the Mac, not just Symantec Endpoint Protection. For more information, please see this document: How to uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macintosh.

Thanks Brian - sorry I missed that the two uninstallers were actually different.

I just ran the first option you recommended following the instructions here: https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH103489.html

It worked and everything seems to be clear! Thank you again, so apprecaite the help. :)
