I created a Windows XP SP3 install in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 and created a .gho image of it, now I'm trying to deploy it to a HP Vectra VL420 and I'm getting this error from DA.

Missing driver detected: type = STORAGE DEVICE PCI ID = IDE\DiskMAXTOR_6L040J2____________________________A93.0500 Desc = MAXTOR 6L040J2 ATA DeviceMissing driver: type = STORAGE DEVICE PCI ID = PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_244B&SUBSYS_2440103C&REV_12 Desc = @system32\drivers\pci.sys.#257;IDE ControllerWarning

This is an older HP desktop P4 with like 768MB of RAM and IDE HDD..I'm at a lost as to why it doesn't have a driver and where to find it.

Can you have a look at

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\target_software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DevicePath

    from WinPE and see if

    %SystemRoot%\inf;

is the first entry?  If not,  make it so and please try again

I see this is an old thread but am having the same issue.  From WinPE I am running:

    x:\ghost\ghdplyaw32.exe /target=c:\windows /ddb=f:\windrivers

and can't seem to figure out this driver:

    Missing Drivers Detected:

    Device Type : Storage Device
    PCI ID : IDE\DiskST3160815AS ____________________________3.AAD____
    Description : Device Description Unavailable

Went in to regedit to :

    HKLM\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DevicePath

and %SystemRoot%\inf;  is one of the entries (don't know what you mean by first entry as they are in alphabetical ascending)

It was complaining about another driver prevsiously.  I figured that one out, redid my boot disc, and can't seem to get this last one.  I don't know what other disk driver there would be as I have chosen all possibilities.

    Ideas?

It is simply telling you that WInpe has no driver for this device. You need to locate this driver on manufacture's website, download it, add it to driver database using Ghost boot wizard (GBW) and then add this driver to Winpe from GBW Winpe editor dialog. Once you checked the box and recompiled WInpe it is ready to be used from the Console and to build standalone media.

Make sure you download Vista driver, not XP.

Ghost is preventing you from going to WInpe preOS when there is no point in going to - since you have no driver for either storage or NIC then clone will fail anyway.

I think you simply missed what I was asking.  Obviously it has no driver.  That's clearly understood and I relayed that fact.  The problem is not in figuring out that a driver was missed - the problem is in finding the driver it's complaining about.  The description it gives is not enough.  I've located every last single driver related to storage from the master machine and retried this process.  It still complains about some strange undescribed and unidentified driver.
