  • 1.  Need Help with Uninstall Password (Client Security)

    Hello,

    I purchased a laptop from a company that I used to work for when I left the company. This laptop was, through mergers and acquisitions, passed thru several companies. It has Symantec Client Security S/W installed and I need to uninstall it so I can install a new version from another source. The uninstall program in Control Panel keeps asking for the "Uninstall Password". I have no idea how to find this. The following are the laptop and S/W particulars:

    IBM Thinkpad T30 w/XP Pro 2002 sp3

    Symantec AntiVirus

    Ver: 9.0.0.338  2/17/2005

    Parent Server: NCAK0002

    Scan Engine 101.2.0.142

    sav 9 is End of life

    If you are installing a newer version of Symantec software, then contact support and have them supply the Cleanwipe tool for removing your old SAV.

    From this page http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-SAVCE.html is states:

    "Symantec Antivirus 9.x will reach its End of Support Life as of March 31, 2009. Virus definition updates for version 9.x will be discontinued on April 1, 2009.Symantec Antivirus 9.x will reach its End of Support Life as of March 31, 2009. Virus definition updates for version 9.x will be discontinued on April 1, 2009."

     uninstall client without password 

     Go to this key(If not exists create it)

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\AdministratorOnly\Security /v LockUnloadServices
    Make this value 0, this is the password to stop Symantec services.. Similarly
     HKLM\SOFTWARE\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\AdministratorOnly\Security /v UseVPUninstallPassword  
     Make this value 0, this is the password asked while uninstalling...

     OR

     u can use nonav/cleanwipe tool.

    Hello ,

    The default uninstall password for is symantec.Try it or you can use cleanwipe tool as well.
