  • 1.  Need a software inventory for a failed hard drive

We have a windows 7 PC that had a hard drive failure.

Our techs have installed a new drive and started the reimaging/software install process.

It has now occured to them that they would like to know what software was previously installed on the failed drive.

Is there a historical report I can retrieve to see the last full software inventory or installed programs list from Altiris for a past date.

    Thanks for any help.

Open Symantec Management Console, find there affected client computer -> mouse right click menu on it -> "Resource Manager" -> on "Resource Manager" page click on "Summaries" above -> "Software Sumary" -> now you'll see all information about installed software and where/which program file is/was stored on client PC.

    Thanks Igor,

Unfortunatley, that doesn't give me what I was needing.  It currently shows what has been reinstalled after the hard drive replacement.

If we had looked there before a new drive and image were applied, it would have been very helpful though.

What I had hoped to find was a report that would allow me to access historical data in the altiris database from before the crash.  Say from the last full inventory.

I really don't know if that data still exists, or if so, how to access it.

Right now, the Resource manger Installed Software and Add Remove Program list are empty, not sure why.

the Installed File Details list is populated, but the file dates correspond to our last image update, and newly installed applications.

    Thanks again

    We'll move on.

Well, to have historical data about what is changed on managed client PC, you need to enable "Resource History" for required data classes, then in Resource Manager -> View -> Inventory -> opening a required data class will has a "History" tab where all changes are mentioned.

    You can read this discussion

Igor's post helps for the figure, but for now do you have database backups? If so, just restore the database (to a new database name or onto to differerent SQL Server entirely) and from there you can query it for the data you need.
