We have set the option for the user to snooze and pause scans in our scan policy, but these options still aren't visible in the client gui. Despite scheduled scan settings being set for maximum application performance, it is still hogging way too many resources on one client. We need to stop it ASAP. How can we do this?

Your Scheduled scan policy should be "Show Scan Progress"
SEPM-AV Policy -Admin Defined Scan - Advanced - Scan Progress Options - Show Scan Progress.
Then only clients will get the option to snooze the scan or stop it.

After stopping and starting the SEP client service, the option to pause became available, but even after clicking pause, the scan appears to be continuing on anyway. The button option changed to "resume scan" but the status above still says it's scanning.

Even if you click on pause or snooze SEP will continue its scanning the file which it is presently scanning .After finishing the scanning of current file it should stop it's scanning. Can you confirm this is not the case...
