    Posted Apr 13, 2017 06:03 PM

    Hello!

I absolutely do need a solution but the radio button would not allow me to click on that option.

I have made at least 5 calls today to try to:

    a.  Uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection

    and

    b.  Install Norton Internet Security which I purchased on 01/02/2017

I lastly called 877-294-5255 and was told to post a message on this website and that a Symantec Support employee would contact me to assist with step (a) uninstall.

    Please call me at:

    812-379-1846

    Susan Harber

    harberiffic@yahoo.com

    Thank you.

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for the quick reply A support tech at Symantec had me download CleanWipe.zip, but when I go to open the file, it wants to open with Media Player.  I don't know what program to use to get it to run.  Any ideas (my question mark isn't working - sorry.)

You can use the built in windows zip utility or download WinZip. The executable needs to be extracted first.

Are you running CleanWipe.exe from the same folder that includes CleanWipe.db? They need to be in the same folder. Also, are you running with admin level privileges?

    I do not have CleanWipe.db.

Is it possible for someone to call - I posted my phone number above.

    Thank you

Yep.  Went through the download process again, .zip downloads, but no .db file.

That's a problem then. I just downloaded the zip file and I see all three files there. An .exe, .db, and .html

What is the solution... is tech support going to call

If you're not a customer, no. Which is probably why they sent you to the forum. Cleanwipe is the automated process. There is also a manual process, which can be time consuming.

What version of SEP are you running?

    What is SEP, please.

Also, do I have any internet security until I complete the uninstall - I leave for vacation tomorrow and do not have a lot of time.  Sorry

This forum is not for official Symantec support. It is a community of users who help out in their free time.

    Are you a Symantec customer?

I am still getting error messages that pertain to the copy function at the start of the execution.  Thank you for your help.  I will have to re-try and re-attempt once I return from vacation in a week.

I will check mark as solution and re-post when it is time.

I thank you so much for your help, Brian.  It has been really frustrating, I have been renewing (and paying!) every year for protection, and now I seem to be up a creek without a paddle just because Norton acquired Symantec (or some other merger acquisition relationship).

Symantec acquired Norton years ago. As long as you're a paying customer than you're entitled to support.

Please let me know if you continue to experience issues and I will help where I can.

Is there a way to mass remove SEP clients using CleanWipe? maybe a powershell script, or a group policy?

We've got many workstations and we can't sit at each desk and run it. We're defaulting to Cleanwipe because removing uninstall password from clients using SEPM isn't applying...

The problem is that cleanwipe is not silent and requires a reboot.

Thanks for your reply! So no way to automate that using a script? what do you suggest on fixing the policy that's supposed to remove the uninstall password but it doesn't? Is there a way I can include the password in the msiexec uninstall command?

It's not that it can't be scripted, but, it's not silent. If that's something you don't care about than it shouldn't be a problem.

Is the client checking in to the SEPM?

If you're on 14, there is preinstall removal feature:

yes last scan is showing recent time/date stamps. checked the group the clients are in, it's not inheriting policies from elsewhere. uninstall password requirement has been unchecked.
