    Hi

I install a NS7.0 SP3 on my server and I have this error for settings phase, the install works fine.

    Event Type: Error
Event Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 1000
    Date:  12/16/2009
    Time:  11:34:44 AM
    User:  N/A
    Computer: XXXXXXXXXX
    Description:
    Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.3959, stamp 45d6968e, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.4480, stamp 49c51f0a, debug? 0, fault address 0x0000bef7

No information are stored on sql database.

I test an install with NS 7 SP2 on the same server and I have the same error.

    I test :

    - reinstall dotnet 3.5
    - reinstall IIS
    - reinstall SP2 (Win 2003)

But, this step doen't correct probleme.

    If you have any Idea,

    Thanks,

    Best Regards,

Unfortunately, the Microsoft event logs aren't the best troubleshooting method for a third party application.

...you're using Server 2003 32bit R2/SP2, correct?  SMP isn't supported yet under 2008 or 64bit OS.  Does the Application Identity you have defined have SA rights to your SQL box (at least for the installation)?  Have you tried re-registering .NET framework in IIS?  To do so:

    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0....\aspnet_regiis.exe -i

Also check IIS configuration and ensure ASP is enabled (SIM should detect this if it isn't and prompt to fix it for you).

This tells me there's a serious problem on the box with .net. The faulting module is kernel32.dll, so the error occurs way under Altiris software. In all fairness it looks like IIS w3wp.exe is making some system calls that are failing, so I agree with Kyle  that it could be a problem with IIS.

Do you have errors in the Altiris logs related to this problem?

    Hi

    Thanks all for your answer,

Yes, I think it's IIS problems, this server is a Windows 2003 SP2 standard US

I run this command and reboot the server, but the server doesn't works.

In the altiris log, i see no errors.

    the last warning is :

    Log File Name: D:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\Logs\SIM 2009-12-16 16-25-20\a.log

    Priority: 2

    Date: 12/17/2009 9:37:17 AM

    Tick Count: 62110750

    Host Name: N-DEX-101

    Process: SymantecInstallationManager (1880)

    Thread ID: 22

    Module: SymantecInstallationManager.exe

    Source: Symantec.Installation.Context.ProductListingManager.SetInstalledProducts

Description: The following error occurred while querying for configured products. This is normal if this is an initial installation of the NS/Platform: Error querying DB. Altiris.NS.ContextManagement.DatabaseContext could not be loaded.

I have this error for every install on the server.

I try to uninstall / Reinstall dotnet and IIS but i have the same problem.

    Thanks,
    Best regards,

If the installation works up to the setting phase (and then bombs out) the error above is to be expected.

The database connection string and the application identity aren't setup so the NS cannot create a database context to use the (not yet configured) [symantec_cmdb] db.

Is the Application Identity account (the service account you specified during initial installation of SMP, and the one you should be using to perform the installation) a local administrator of the server?  Are you connected via Remote Desktop with the /Admin (or /console switch on XP SP2)?  Has any sort of IIS "hardening" or lockdown been done?  In IIS manager, under "Web Service Extensions", are both Active Server Pages and ASP.NET v2.0.50727 set to Allowed?

    Thanks Kyle,

Yes, My Application Identity are local administrator of my server.

I use MSTSc /admin with Windows XP SP3

Web Service Extension are enable and SIM see no error when it check my server.

I don't see any lockdown on IIS.

The problemes comes to IIS, I ask a new install of my server, I think a new install works fine.
