  • 1.  Network Activity: SmcGui.exe - Application Error

    when I'm working on my laptop, suddenly a pop-up message appear like this: "Windows - Delayed Write Failed. Windows unable to save all data for the file \Device\HarddiskVolume1\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error my be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

    And then after I closed the message window, there is another pop-up message appear: "Network Activity: SmcGui.exe - Application Error. The instruction at "0x67f5eefe" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program. Click on CANCEL to debug the program."

    After that my usb mouse could not be moved, but the touchpad-mouse on the laptop could. To normally the operation of my laptop, I've to restart it, sometimes I've to turn off it by pressing the on-off button if the system get stuck/hang. I'm using Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11.0.2000.1567 and Windows XP SP 3.

    Why this happens ? Is there something wrong with my laptop or my SEP ?

    Regarding SEP - 11.0.2000.1567 is a very old version:

    I would strongly suggest to reinstall it with the newest version.

    The version being used by you is too old. I would say upgrade to the latest version SEP RU6 MP2 and monitor.

    What OS has it been installed on? Please note that the version you are using does not support Vista/7/2008 versions of MS Windows.

    I also strongly suggest to migrate directly to 11.0.6200.754 as per my colleagues' recommendations. This can be done by applying the following article:

    Hello,

    Since you are carrying  Older version 11.0.2000

    We recommend you to upgrade the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and all clients to Latest version.

    Since you are carrying old version, there would be 2 upgrades you will have to go through. Please check the steps below:

    1) From Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.2000  to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6005 (RU6a)

    This may be due to hard ware failures also.Have a look at the event log entries.Do you have anything related to Disk or NTFS?If yes it shold be related to hard drive...
