  • 1.  new package server - just copy files

    Posted Jun 02, 2017 11:22 AM

so we have a few sites where they have a slow wan connection and in addition also have the package server drives full.

We are getrting new servers setup and I do not want to just replicate all of this data over the wan.

So.. what I need to know is after installing altiris agent/package server agents... can I simply copy over the files from one server to the other and restart the package server service? and it will just do a check?

    CMS 7.6 HF7

    thx

I'm pretty sure you can, this article explains what needs to be copied over:

"How do you reinstall a Package Server while retaining the packages that have been downloaded?"

'Make a copy <Altiris Agent folder>\Package Delivery in a safe place in another location.  This folder contains all hosted packages by Package Server, it’s shared as PkgSvrHostC$ with permissions "Everyone - Full Control"'

    Hi TeleFragger.

Some Altiris previous versions you could to paste the folders with the packages and the altiris were able to identify these packages.

I'm running the same version as you and sometimes I face the same situation. As a "workaround" I setup the new site server in a site where already exists a site server with all the packages replicated.

I only install the Altiris agent and package service in my new server. All packages will be replicated from the other site server that exists in your location. When the all packages be replicated, shut down the new server and also delete it from the Altiris console. When the new server arrives and be installed, the altiris agent will appear in you console. Then, install the package service again and packages replication won't be necessary because you already did that. The agent will only verify each package and show package ready.

    I hope this help you.

    Regards,

interesting... so your saying to assign the new package server to the same "Site" as the other fully replicated server and it should copy from that Package server? I thought it communicates back to the main NS to sync as it may not think the current package server is accurate...

ok I will be testing this soon.

Thanks and I will reply back.

    That's it.

if you have two package servers in the same site, only one will download the from the NS. The other one will download the file from the other package server that is in the same site.

I haven't done any specific configuration to this happens. This behaviour is default.

If you have any questions, let me know.
