    Hi,

I just installed a trial copy of Ghost solution Suite Console 3.1 in windows server 2012R2. Everything works fine there. I also remotely installed a client into a win10 lenovo laptop and I verified the folder and files are created there. I was able to add the lenovo using "New" Computer , no issues there. I wanted to create a lenovo image using the new job wizard and checked the "create an image" and selected the lenovo and specified the location to store image as .\Images\lenovo.gho and left the rest of the settings as default.

I've allowed in the lenovo remote connections, but all I see in the server in the job pane is the lenovo name and scheduled at todays date and time. Nothing else happened and no images. Please let me know what am I missing. thanks.

I've attached the image. Also its not a networking issue, I tried another machine on the same network, I can ping it also from the server. I installed both Symantec Ghost solution Suite 3.1 and Symtantec Ghost Standard Tools 3_1.

Any help and suggestions much appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have licenses on the console,   help and about will give us that info I am not familiar with the color of your clients there and thought they may not be licensed.   (sorry if this is off base and I just am forgetting what the icon color looks like should be blue or gray or blue with a user icon is what I would be expecting)

How will your client be booting into windows PE so that ghost can then create the imgage?     Did you also set up PXE or Automation folders?   I would recomend to set up automation folders if you hadn't yet done one of these things then the agent in windows is good and the console is good but there is no mechanisum for booting to Winpe and is required.

Take a look at the how to videos especially the pxe configuration

    https://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/ghost-solution-suite-30-how-videos

And for the automation folders see the following.

Hope that helps and isn't too far off line from where you are at.

Yes, its licensed but its a trial limited time only. I've yet to decide which licenses to buy yet. This attempt is a proof of concept to my bosses so I'm hoping to get this working soon, then I can start the full license purchase.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into the videos. Yes I'm thinking of sysprep - since I want a booting windows when I restore the image to other Lenovo laptops .Is WinPXE the best way to do this ?

I just saw the first videos , so I think I may have some missing pieces. I've attached another pic . When I downloaded - those are what I got. So I installed the Symantec_Ghost_solution_Suite_3.1_v1 and also the Symantec_GHost_Standard_Tools_3_1 and in the 42979742 is the .slf license file which I did include during the install. I don't remember adding the .frm file anywhere and also there doesn't seem to be any ADK or adksetup.exe or axinstall.exe anywhere. Could you please let me know if I can get these somewhere else ? Unless its somehow not included in trials. Not sure what's those MP4 one about .

I've decided to redo the add computer. Steps I've taken:

In the lenovo laptop, I've changed to a fix ip - same network as the Ghost server and I also opened these firewall ports:

    1345 (UDP)
    1346 (UDP)
    1347 (UDP)
    6666 (UDP)
    7777 (UDP)

I can also now ping the laptop from the Ghost server.

In the server I've reinstalled the agent and enabled the laptop to be remote controlled. It completed sucessfully but I don't see it popping up in the console. So I had to manually added the laptop under "New Computers"  with the MAC address, ip, serial number, etc. As you can see in the pic I have now the Power and Remote Control - but when I send a Restart or Shutdown, nothing happens. Strange thing is - the laptop icon is now brown. I assume this means Ghost thinks it is Offline. I tried restarting the altiris service, resintalling the agent again, but nothing. I believe this is why the imaging doesn't work. I can ping the laptop from Ghost server. Could you please help suggest what else I might be missing, perhaps its those components I mentioed earlier ?

    K Chen,

I posted on your other article but I will post again here.

Below are a few links you may find helpful.

In regards to your computer in the console, please follow the below article and disable encrypted sessions.

If you are opening specific ports for the firewall you will need a lot more than those 4. Make sure the GSS server has the following ports open incoming and outgoing.

    TCP

    402,403

    UDP

    37,49,53,67,68,69,137,138,1345,1346,1347,4011,5001,5002,6666,7777

You will then need to navigate to tools->options->global and set your client transfer port to 403. Your client machines will need minimum 402,403 tcp ports open.
