  • 1.  No Online\Offline status in the Action Center Console

I have heard through the grape vine that Action Center Console will never get online\offline status indicators like the DS 6 console. I personally would love to have it. I use it quite often in DS 6.9. What do the rest of you think?

You are correct. The Activity Center in 7.1 does not have a "Real-Time" online/offline status. In other words, no cute color if a computer "may" be online or "may" be offline. I use the term "may" because even in 6.9, it was not 100% reliable.

I can see both sides of this though. On the one side, yes it is nice to see if a computer is online. On the other side, why do you need to see if the computer is online. I mean, if it is because of software delivery, creating a Managed Software Delivery will make you care a lot less if a computer is online or not because it is a policy. If it is a quick delivery task that needs to be pushed to a computer, you would not be scheduling this in large batch's due to the resource use this would cause on your Site Servers. You would most likely be in contact with the endpoint(s) and monitor them on a case by case basis. Otherwise, like I mentioned previously, you would be using a policy for a large scale deployment and relying on reporting for status.

With the robust reporting and policy capabilities of 7.x, I do not see an apparent need to tell if a computer is online or not.

To sum it up, I can see what you are requesting and I also miss it. Although, I have learned to adjust and don't rely on it so heavily and use some of the features (i.e reporting and such) to determine my status of deployments or other tasks/jobs.
