  • 1.  NS 6 Email Configuration issue

    Hi All,

    When we are trying to configure Email Option in NS 6, its giving me a strange error... we have Xgen Email Plus SMTP server installed in our environment, I am giving SMTP IP, Port and authentication details in Email configuration page, but Its saying
    " There was an error sending your message, make sure you have entered a valid port and SMPT server" 1
    We dont have any firewall or IPS devices in between the NS & SMTP server. in the altiris logs its showing " SMTP server exception, Address not Internal, IP not allowed"

    We have added the NS in SMTP relay option, but still the issue is same. I have gone through the KB articles, but those were not helpful.

    Any Ideas????

    the SMTP server from the Altiris server (outside of the actual application)?

    Hi.
    Have you tried to connect with Telnet? You need the <space>25 to ensure you connect to port 25 and not the default telnet port 23.

    telnet.exe mailserver.tld 25

    You then should get a welcome line starting with 220 mailserver.tld
    Type in HELO and you should get a single 250-mailserver.tld [IP address]
    Or type in EHLO and you should get a bunch of 250-??????

    If this fails, SMTP comms is the problem, because of firewalls or network port blocking.
    If this is successful, double check your entries in Altiris.

    HI,

    I am able to telnet to the SMTP server and also i have tried sending an Email from the telnet session..

    I have also verified the SMTP server details which i have mentioned.. all are fine, but still I am getting the same error.

    Can we suspect somthing at the SMTP server end here?? like Policies and Relay options etc..?

    Hi Naresh,

    When you tried the Telnet, were on on the NS at the time?

    From the "Address not Internal" message, it sounds like the SMTP server is rejecting the NS due to its IP Address.

    I would suggest the following:

    1) Check the IP Address of the NS
    2) Check the IP Address of the SMTP Server
    ... Is the SMTP Server set to only accept certain IP Address ranges?
    3) For good measure, I'd try TELNET from the NS Itself to see if you can access the SMTP Server.

    These steps should help us narrow down the problem area.
