Symantec Management Platform (Notification Server)

 I am new to Altiris and having a few struggles getting the components to work.  I have NS 7 installed along with many other components.  I have been able to discover all of my machines on any of my subnets.  I have also been able to push the Altiris Agent and install pcAnywhere.  I am now trying to push a software package to a test computer that has the agent loaded.  I am trying to push a simple .exe.  I have created the package and task, but when i try to schedule the task to run on the test PC...the status says "waiting for the agent to get the package"...it never seems to change.  so far i have not been able to find much documentation/help at all for an Altiris beginner.  could someone point me to good documentation or point out where i may be going wrong in my setup?  thanks -

One thing you may want to look at is where the client is in location to the Notification Server. The package has to be published, and then downloaded. If you don't have a site server, which is an extension of the architecture, you may see download 'problems' depending on how your network is laid out.

Just to comment...in my test environment, the NS and the test client are on the same subnet...actually even on the same switch.  i assume that i published the package since it is available as a possible task.    

The package should be published then on the NS, and the client should pick it up. You would only need a site server if your test environment went over 500 clients (and I'd be envious to have that size of a test environment). You can also take a look at the Altiris Agent logs on the client (should be \program files\altiris\altiris agent\logs) or the server (program files\altiris\notification server\logs). There is a log viewer you can use on the server and the Altiris Agent diagnostics tool available for the client.

The logs provide tons of data, and they are always the first place I start when troubleshooting (and the first thing I ask for when I prowling around here).
