  • 1.  NS Server Licencing

    Hi,

I'm fairly new to Altiris and the system was setup before i took over so i have a question reguarding licencing.

I was having trouble getting some new client alerts to trigger, on checking i found the licences for the Altiris monitor pack for 7.1 SP1 have expired!!!

Woudl this cause the issue i am seeing?

    Regards

    Jonn

Yes. If Monitor Packs license is expired, then clients wouldn't receive monitor policies and send any metric data to NS, until license is expired or exceeded.

    Hi,

Thanks i thought that would be the case,

Existing clients still seem to be updated and receive new policies, is this expected?

Well, if monitor policy is still there on managed monitored server, then NS machine wouldn't parse arrived NSe filed with monitored metric data from monitored servers, if license is expired. Probably you will see an error message in Altiris Log Viewer on NS machine, when it doesn't parse NSe with metric data.

    Hi,

Thats what i expected to happen but as you can see from my the image the monitor packs have expired but i will get metrics triggering.

This came about as i installed the monitor agent on a new server and when checking the agent diagnostics there are not policies applied?

    Summary:

Monitor Packs license is expired then:

    1. Monitor policies will not arrive to managed endpoints.
    2. NSE files with metrics data will not be parsed on NS side.

There are internal scheduled tasks which should be executed to evaluate license state.

Other things about license consuming behavior for other solutions:
