  • 1.  NS6 & NS7.1 installed on the same machine

We are in planning stages for migrating to SMP7.1 I have been asked by another team is it possible to have both the ns6 AND NS7.1 both installed on the same machine so if they needed they can still get packages from the old server? If so how would this be done?

    Thanks Cat

I'm sure there's other reasons but for a start both use the same /Altiris web address in IIS, which i don't think is configurable.

If you build a new 7.1 server, highly recommended anyway instead of reusing the existing v6.0 Server, they can still get packages from the old server. If you have to reuse the old hardware, consider virtualising the v6.0 NS. A phased migration from 6 to 7.1 is better than a "big bang" upgrade.

Just to clarify I am talking about the clients talking back to the NS 6 server AND the NS7.1 server which are currently installed on separate servers. I clearly think this would not be possilbe but I have been asked to investigate if at all possilble

No, you cannot have a 6 and 7 agent installed at the same time (even with different configuration).

And you cannot configure a single agent to connect to two different servers.

Yes you can have both clients installed on the same machine. I have both clients installed on all of my machines and they do not conflict at all.
