I am evaluation CMS for purchase by my organization, but I have a few questions.

    1.  Inventory and Software Management solutions appear to support Solaris platorms, but not the Patch Management solution.  Is this true, or was it an omission in the planning and implementation guide (V1.1, page 46).

    2.  Can CMS support offline systems which are generally wholly contained with an enclave, or with limited bandwidth?  Would it be possible to write a CD with updates from a child site server, and then apply it manually to systems (e.g., laptops).   Would the client need to be installed on the laptop?

    3.  Does the parent server need to be connected to the Internet, or can we manually push updates onto a server on an isolated network?

    Thank you.

    1. At this time Patch Management solution does not support Solaris.

    2. In order for CMS to support a client machine the necessary agents must be installed on it. With CMS 6 it was possible to copy the necessary software packages onto the client machine from a CD or other media. The agent on the client machine would need to be able to contact the Notification Server and be informed about the new packages/tasks it was suppose to perform. This would cause the agent to create the necessary folder for each package. You would simply need to copy the packages into their correct folders. This should still be possible with CMS 7.

    3. No the parent server doesn't need to have an internet connection. You would need to download the corresponding update files & the .pl file to a location that is accessible by the Notification Server. When you launch the Symantec Installation Manager you would then change the configuration to point to this new location, not the default Symantec location.
