    Hi everyone,

I have a weird problem that happened a few days ago. It seems that suddenly Windows stopped to recognize Symantec as a valid antivirus. That creates some weird events in Outlook in particular. We use Endpoint protection and it is working fine. All the PC I've checked are up to date.

I was wondering how to make Symnatec "accepted" by Windows again.

Thanks for your help in advance

    Fred

Do you have a screenshot or log of what is going on? What is the exact Windows version?

    Any relation to this link?

    Hi Brian,

Thank you for your fast answer.

    About your questions:

Do you have a screenshot or log of what is going on?

For the screenshot (in french sorry about that)

    120px_Capture.PNG

As you can see, Outlook says that the antivirus is not valid.

What is the exact Windows version?

We have only windows 7 64bits computers

    Any relation to this link?

I do not think so because we use Windows 7 only.

What's the exact SEP client version that is installed? Are you using SEPs Outlook scanning add-on?

    Hi brian et Praveen,

    I found my answer:

To make a test, I've reinstalled Symantec on my computer and I realized that Windows was seeing as valid again. The reason: If I force a live update on a computer, two fixes are applied. One of them seems to solve the problem since Windows is happy after that.

I just wonder why the client does not push those updates automatically on the computers. What could cause that?

    Thank you!

    Sorry, to answer your questions:

We use the client 12.1.6 (12.1 RU6 MP7) and we work in a 100% Windows 7 64bits environment and are using Outlook 2010.

Those updates typically come down via LiveUpdate automatically. It depends on how the policy is configured though.

We notice preciesly the same, when we do a Windows System Health Report (perfmon /report), it's also stating no AV is installed. All PC's run Windows 7 x64 (with Office 2010).

We also see the same with 14.0 MP2.

Windows 10 reports correctly that AV is installed.

Previous solutions like renaming the WMI repository, Windows 7 hotfix, and so on don't solve this.

SymDiag shows nothing special, perfmon /report does show an alert regarding devices and drivers detection through WMI. So WMI could be a possible cause (?).

IMO this isn't related to Outlook, but Windows detection if an AV solution is present or not (Windows Security Center).
