  • 1.  Package Server Assignment Tool Question

Hi, I hope I'm in the right place.  Does anyone know if this tool is ok to use on Patch Mgmt 6.2?

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO8966&key=55285&actp=LIST

We've got a ton of patches (from 2008 through today) that I accidently staged without the "All Package Servers" option set.  It would be nice if I didn't have to go back and re-stage all of them.  It looks like the tool was created for 6.0, I'm not sure about 6.2.  Thanks in advance for any help...

I think this should work just fine.  They don't show the code for the package, but I'm sure it looks for SW Delivery packages that have a ResourceTypeGuid of "Patch Management Update Package" (not the right ResourceType name, but I don't have access to an NS currently), and that GUID hasn't changed AFAIK.  Plus I think Patch 6.2 came out around or before this article was originally created.

Have you tried "Recreate packages" after first checking the "Allow Package Server Distribution" checked?  This might fix it too.

Just in case, I would backup your Altiris DB before running it just in case anything unexpected happens.

Thanks for the reply, I seen your post right before I was going to run it. My cohort suggested it would work as well.

I didn't know to check the "Allow Package Server Distribution" before I started staging. Recreating the packages didn't do anything.

It took about 30 minutes for the tool to go through all the packages.  The Log Viewer was clear, and now to distribute the 2500 packages...
