We recently had some work done by a vendor to install package servers at multiple geographic sites. At one site, we are having an issue in which the package server is showing up in the NS console as having 188 pending packages, zero available packages, and zero invalid packages.

    When I compare the agent settings between this package server and one of our other package servers, I find that when you right click on the Altiris agent icon in the system tray, the "Software Updates" option is missing from the server. All package servers are running Server 2k3, and the environment is Deployment Server 6.9 SP2 and Notification Server 6.0.6074.

    Is there an installation or configuration piece we still need?

    would only indicate that that particular server does, or in this case, does not have the patch management (software update) agent installed on it.

    Can you view the Altiris Agent Log files on the system (Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Logs) to see what errors you may see there?

    ... But not "Package Server" tab. However, I assume it is present.

    What does the that page say? "Available Packages", "Pendinding Packages", ... ? Is there a List of Packages? If yes, you can double click a Package for details. Check the "Download" Tab.

    There may be a problem with site definitions on the NS.

    The errors I see in the log are as follows:

    <event date='Nov 18 13:44:42' severity='2' hostName='<package server>' source='ConfigServer' module='AeXNSAgent.exe' process='AeXNSAgent.exe' pid='2292' thread='2884' tickCount='1221512437' >
      <![CDATA[RequestPolicies failed: Unexpected response from URL http://<notification server>/Altiris/NS/Agent/GetClientPolicies.aspx?xml=<Request configVersion="2"><WrkstaGuid>{4C6F60B3-0F0A-4A86-BB80-EDDB4AEE521D}</WrkstaGuid></Request>&compress=1&hash=1: Unable to locate a resource with the specified GUID (-2147213056)]]>
    </event>

    And

    <event date='Nov 18 13:29:42' severity='1' hostName='package server>' source='ConfigServer' module='AeXNSAgent.exe' process='AeXNSAgent.exe' pid='2292' thread='2884' tickCount='1220612390' >

      <![CDATA[RequestPolicies failed: HTTP Request Failed: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. (-2147014836)]]>

    I do not see a package server tab at all, nor the software updates option, which is where I am able to see the package server tab on the other 2 package servers that were setup.

    If I right click on the Altiris and go into the Altiris Agent, a software delivery window opens, and show no package tasks or application tasks listed.

    I would look to see if you are being rejected by ports being blocked or some other security restriction. Genearlly, the client to server traffic used port 80, although task server communication is different.

    The link you referred me to did the trick.
