  • 1.  Patch Management Agent version in 7.6 HF5

    Posted Oct 12, 2015 04:41 PM

I recently upgraded to ITMS 7.6 HF5 (from HF4).  The release notes state that the patch management agent (Altiris Software Update Agent) should be upgraded to 7.6.1635,  however my agents seem to be stuck at 7.6.1395.  The upgrade policy for this agent is enabled.  The agents download the package and attempt to install the upgrade but the version does not upgrade even though it shows a good return code of 0.   If I manually browse to the software package cache, the MSI shows a date of Feb, 2015 (seems old for HF5) and if I run it manually I get an error that it "requires Symantec Management Agent 7.0 or greater".  Same symptoms on both the 64-bit and 32-bit software update agents.

    Anyone else seeing this problem?

This screenshot shows the error when running the MSI manually along with the agent versions. This is a 32-bit Windows 7 machine but I have the same symptoms on Win 10 64-bit machines and Server 2008 R2 servers.

I am having the same issue, but mine involves the 7.5 version of Patch (we recently did an upgrade).  I have changed the policy to only install Patch agents on workstations (exclude servers).  This policy was set before the upgrade but was overwritten and now some of our servers have patch installed.  How can we force the removal of this subagent?

    Thanks!

Resendesw, Right next to the install and upgrade policies, you should see an uninstall policy.  That policy can be used to remove the patch agent.  However, the default target will remove it from all machines.  Be sure to remove that target and create one that specfically targets servers with the agent installed.

I found a solution to my original post.  The problem actually corrected itself after about a day and a half.  I opened a ticket on this and apparently this is an issue they have seen during upgrades of some customer enviornments.  The problem eventually fixes itself but you can fix it sooner by manually running the scheduled tasks NS.Package Distribution Point Update and NS.Package Refresh after completing the upgrade.  For the record, the correct version of the Software Update agent included with 7.6 HF5 is 7.6.1635 as the release notes indicate.

I was going to state the same thing.

    Whenever doing an upgrade...

ALWAYS give a day or 2 as there are scheduled tasks that need to run. As much as we do not want to upgrade on a Friday, best is to do on a Thursday and state Altiris will be down until Monday. This way EVERYTHING can run, update and "Get Settled" as I tell them.

I have run into this a few times...
