Patch Management Solution

Hi all,

I have to deploy patch management solution at one of our customer for 3500 endpoints.

Customer had never patched those endpoints, also they are using assembled machine.

There are across 100 locations in his company, also allowed bandwidth at that customers is 160 kbps for Patching.Machines are all windows based POS ready, XP, Vista and 7.

I am planning to install Patch management solution at headquarter of the customer and then deploy package server at all location, Will I be able to achieve the same.

Questions:

A. Which Patch management version should I install in order to adhere Windows POS ready, XP, Vista and Windows 7 machines?

B. Will my Patch packages replicate for this much amount of Bandwidth, Patches will be mostly OS based?

C. Any other way of achieving the replication or manually sharing the packages across location?

If you have faced such a situation and got out the same then please help me out with some solution.

Please guide me on the same.

A. I think you will only be able to use Patch Management to patch machines where patching is still supported by Microsoft. So it doesn't matter which version of Patch Management you use. B. You can easily have over 1GB of patches for Windows 7 x86 alone so replication over slow links will take some time. C. Yes, once you have one package server set up you can copy the directory structure to DVDs and copy them to other package servers. The replication process only copies down packages that are not already at the destination.

A. My question is whether POS ready machine supported by Altiris for patching and if yes then, which version of Altiris support Patch management?
