We were in the process of replacing McAfee Endpoint Encryption with PGP Universal Server 3.0.2, the trial went successful and then I was advised we already have this server somewhere on the network, I found that the version currently in use is 2.10.0. The problem is the server is on vmware ESXi, we need to move this into our Data Centrer and the chap setup this is no longer with the company and i don't have a username and a password for the ESXi box.

Is it possible to build a new ESXi, install 3.0.2 and then restore the configuration from 2.10.0?

You don´t need access to ESXi, just need access to Universal server. you can log to web interface through this link http://hostname:9000

If you have access, you should update to Universal server 2.12 SP4.

You can get downloads from fileconnect.symantec.com , entering serial number of the product.

If file is not available, you should ask Customer care:

Once you are in 2.12 SP4, you can get a working backup , which you will restore to 3.0.2 .

Please note that latest and recommended version is Universal 3.2

    Thanks Julian.

I guess this will be the best way to tackle this issue, once the PGP is upgraded I can easily move this.

I beleive upgrading to 3.0.2 involves the following upgrade path:

    - Upgrade to 2.12

    - Upgrade to 2.12 sp4

    - Take a backup with your org key

    - Rebuild on 3.1.2SP2

    - Restore backup

    - Upgrade to 3.2MP5

Is this a faily easy process? Is there anything I need to watch out for?

Consider reading upgrade guide if you have cluster servers.

Save backup to an external location

If you see "migration failed" error, does not necesary means that update failed; check features and data , many times its working as expected.
