[Please help] Symantec Client Firewall blocking all

My Symantec Client Firewall version 7.1.5.1104 is blocking my VLC Media Player. I am trying to local stream my music through port 8080 (through my router, on my home network, not through the internet), but the firewall is blocking it. When I completely turn off Symantec Client Firewall, everything works fine. How can I add vlc to the list of exceptions? I already added vlc.exe to the Client Firewall Program list, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. I have been searching for help for about a week now, but I can't find help for my firewall anywhere! It's like my firewall doesn't exist! Thanks in advance!

You will need to modify the the firewall rules to allow the traffic over port 8080.

See this KB for help -

Thanks for your reply! I added a new rule for my program, but when I try to save the new policy, I get this error: Error saving file. Error Description: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Client Firewall Administrator\Policies\ScfaDefaultPolicy.cfp (Access denied) How can I solve this?

Thanks a lot for your time! I managed to solve my problem. Now, I tried to add the permission rule that I'm in need of, but when I try to export my settings to my active client, I get the error: "Symantec Client Firewall Administrator has determined that your "Program Rules" have exceeded the maximum allotted size for use with legacy Symantec Client Security 2.0 clients. If you need to export this policy to legacy clients, please decrease the number of "Program Rules" or the number of IP Addresses per "Named Address Group." Now I tested some more, and I get the same error when I just do "Import from Active client" and then, without changing anything, export the same settings to the active client. Thanks again for your time! Really, much appreciated!

I am not finding anything in our Database with that error.

This KB may shed some light on the problem.

Hi, I tried that before, but when I open the Client Firewall > Configure > Advanced > General window, I get an error that a script on the page has stopped working. The error is: 'szModify' is undefined . I can still browse the list of rules though, I just can't add any :/ Url of error : res://fwui.dll/RuleSummary.js I feel that we're heading in the right direction though!

I can modify an existing rule though. But I can't save it, I get another script-error error. One more thing I noticed: on the right top, it says 'Network Detector is off'

Okey, ignoring the script-errors, I managed to set up a rule to allow connections through 8080. Now, when I try to acces through my local ip adress, the page gives the sign of loading (connected to host), but still no content is being shown ? :(

Do you have "Admin" rights for SCF?

Client user access levels for Symantec Client Firewall 7.x

    User
Access Level Permissions within Symantec Client Firewall
Admin Users with Admin access rights have the following permissions:
    • Adding, modifying, and deleting Unlocked rules
    • Changing all Client Settings, including enabling and disabling the firewall
    • Adding and deleting IP addresses to Trusted and Restricted Zones if unlocked
    • Editing the Intrusion Detection Signature Exclusion list if unlocked
    • Running program scans
    • Enabling and disabling automatic rule creation
    • Enabling and disabling Network Detector
    • Modifying Privacy Control settings
    • Backing up and restoring policy files
    • Running LiveUpdate and using Help
    • Viewing the Log Viewer

Users with Admin access have the same access level as the firewall administrator, but only for their local client.
Normal Users with Normal access rights have the following permissions:
    • Viewing statistics; deciding which data to view
    • Limited viewing of Zone IP addresses
    • Modifying Privacy Control settings but not adding private information
    • Modifying Ad Blocking settings
    • Running LiveUpdate and using Help
    • Viewing the Log Viewer

I checked and I have admin rights. I changed the Rule Type from 'locked' to 'unlocked', but I still seem to get the same error :( I also found some more options which allowed me to open more ports for other programs, too bad I can't import it into my SCF. The strange thing is that the error message mentions stuff about SCF 2.0 , while I have SCF 7.x? One more thing I discovered: I also get this message when I only to to export the 'rules'-settings to my SCF. So the error is probably there? When I try to export only the policy or the signatures, I get no error.
