    Hello,

new clients never get the "Software Update Plug-in Install" policy.

    I tried TECH187835 and I get:

"2012-05-25 12:09:10","Failed to perform an item reference update. Item reference with ParentItemGuid='{34ce3b02-5755-4a89-bf90-11e0a007a6a8}' and ChildItemGuid='{13025a1c-a8c2-4352-a906-fe3ade3c8760}' and hint='mastertoshadow' already exists.","Altiris.NS.ItemManagement.Item","AeXConfig","1"

I did a repair of "Altiris Patch Management Solution 7.1 SP2" and even a repair "Altiris Client Management Suite 7.1 SP2b"

    Still no success.

Policy is enabled, has a schedule and there are targets but targets never get the policy. Everithing else seems to be working.

When clients checks for its configs, the NS returns:

"2012-05-25 12:41:33","Generated empty policy XML for item: {34ce3b02-5755-4a89-bf90-11e0a007a6a8}","Altiris.NS.AgentManagement.PolicyRequest.LoadItemPolicy","w3wp","487"

Support at Symantec suggested to try TECH147358 but it did not change anything.

I also used my lab to export/import policies and packages but it did not solve my problem.

I don't know what to try anymore.

    Please help.

    Thanks.

Anyone knows if the "Software Update Plug-In Install" policy has always the same Guid from a SMP to an other?

I'm still stuck at the same place. I just uninstalled the whole Patch Management Solution and I reinstalled it.

Same problem. Clients never get the policy.

Server says: "Generated empty policy XML for item: Software Update Plug-in Install (34ce3b02-5755-4a89-bf90-11e0a007a6a8)"

Policy may have been imported from lab server and/or duplicated.

I need a way to delete it and its hidden components completely and to recreate it from scratch.

If I restart IIS on the SMP, all clients without the Software Update Plug-In finally receive the Policy and they install the Plug-In.

If new clients are installed after, they never receive this policy.

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH187835 is not successful?

This has worked in the three environments I've seen this in.  If this isn't successful, you are probably looking at a support case, unless you want to uninstall and reinstall the solution (instead of repair).

    Thanks for your reply,

in fact a case is already opened at Symantec. I tought that I would get some other suggestions by posting in paralel.

    Hello lalanderj,

Could you please provide more information about your setup:
Is it Hierarchy setup? if yes, where problem occurs - on Parent's client or on Child's client?

Have you installed pointfix rollups? if yes, what rollup is installed?

Did this issue appear only for Software Update Plug-in Install policy or for other plug-ins / policies too?

    Thanks,
    Roman

    Hello,

    sorry for the delay.

    My configuration has rollup v3.

Because of that, I had to apply "Pointfix_eTrack2738820_7_1_SP2_v3.zip" that is available in article TECH185400.

I solved a part of the problem. I still had a corruption between the "Software Update Plug-in Install" policy and its components.

I tried an other repair without success.

I went on "Settings", "Notification Server", "Console Settings", "Views", "Software", "Software Catalog".

I applied "Patch Management Agent 7.1.75" as filter and ended with the Software Resources for Patch Management Agent (x86 and x64) and I deleted both.

I followed articles TECH187835 and HOWTO59049 that are no more available because I was told by support that they were not supposed to be public.

Finally the policy was getting to clients and everything seems to be back to normal.

If somebody have applied rollup v3 or v2, he may want to look for TECH185400.

    Thanks for your replies.

    My configuration is:

Client Management Suite 7.1 SP2 with rollup V3.

    No hierachy.

We are migrating our 22000 nodes from CMS6. We currently have only 1 SMP, 1 Site Server for 800 nodes.
