  • 1.  Problem with JavaLiveUpdate - return code -2,001

    Posted Sep 22, 2014 11:48 AM

    Hi guys,

I'm back here to ask your help.

I have installed liveupdate v.1.0 MR14 on RHEL6.4 64bit , when i run command : sav liveupdate --update have message show as below

    Command failed: Problem with LiveUpdate.
Check that java directory is in PATH
    Unable to perform update

But looking at the log files looks like settings are correct and java is running (but still getting error about PATH). Can you help me?

I have previously done all these steps:

    1. reading other articles like: Tim Boyer's geek blog and Liveupdate savjlu-1.0.10-26 can't update virusdefs
    2. saved liveupdt.hst from LUA in /opt/Symantec/LiveUpdate
    3. saved a liveupdate.conf file in /etc and insert inside this lines: hostfile=/opt/Symantec/LiveUpdate/liveupdt.hst
      workdir=/tmp
      logfile=/opt/Symantec/LiveUpdate/liveupdt.log
    4. installed jre before installing sav e savjlu
    5. added JCE Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files
    6. runned the command: /opt/Symantec/symantec_antivirus/update_java_home.sh getting: Searching /usr/java for java...
      Found /usr/java/jre1.8.0_11/bin/java
      Updated /etc/Symantec.conf with java path.

here the log files before settings:

    Hi Skas,

First the good news: the managed SEP for Linux is out!

SEP 12.1 RU5 introduced a managed SEP for Linux client in September 2014.  Details can be found in New fixes and features in Symantec Endpoint Protection and Network Access Control 12.1.5 and Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.5 for Linux Client Guide. The use of this new, managed SEPFL client is highly recommended over the legacy SAVFL client.

Please install this new SEPFL rather than the SAVFL.

Next: are other Linux machiens able to successfully downlaod defintions from your internal LUA 2.x server at  vm*******4:7070? has it been confirmed that what the client needs is in fact there?

SAV for Linux: A (Somewhat) Illustrated Guide Part 3 has additional infromation that will help.

    Many thanks!

    Mick

    Hey Mick,

glad to hear you. Happy for the new release, sad because i can't use it. crying

Well yes all the servers produce the same output. I'm sure about vm*******4:7070 even because came from java settings exported from LUA on vm****4 machine.

I have read about that code -2,001 could be caused by proxy: i didn't set proxy on my liveupdate.conf file because my servers are not allowed to access internet.

servers and Lua are on different Lan and just Lua can access internet. I'm sure server-LAN can communicate with Lua-LAN.

in java client configuration (.hst file) i have also set to contact only Lua-server and not external sites like symantec.liveupdate ecc ecc

Regardless of the cause of the problem why update command is still giving me Java PATH error?

    Hey guys,
thanks you all for your help.

The problem was due to dns service down on our dns server: so after solving this i was able to connect to LUA. Thanks to your answers i have been able to solve.
I want to give an info: you don't need to set proxy server in liveupdate.conf if your servers don't need to go on internet.

However now i'm getting another type of error but I'm going to open another discussion not to make confusion.
    Thanks
