  • 1.  Problem with Migration and Deployment Wizard

    Posted Dec 29, 2011 01:21 PM

In SEP 11 I used my Migration and Deployment Wizard when I needed to deploy to individual clients and it worked pretty well, but since I upgraded to 12.1000 I can't deploy with this method.  It seems it is in the middle of some kind of setup when I start the application.   It is on the Product Migration step and wants me to Specify all Symantec AntiVirus Parent Servers to migrate policies and group settings from.  I try to add one of my servers to this list and it pops up and says it can't communicate with that server.  It has the right credentials so there is no reason it shouldn't be able to communicate.

My SEPM is all set up all im trying to do is deploy to new clients.  I want to have the old wizard I had in SEP 11.  I am currently just deploying through powershell which works fine for me, but if other admins need to deploy I would like this wizard to make it easier for them.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

If you have installed a 12.1 SEPM and are wanting to install clients what you will want to do is in the homepage of the SEPM in the top right hand corner next to common tass drop the menu down to install protection client to computers. This will start the client deployment wizard that you are familiar with from SEP 11.

The migration wizard you are running is looking for SAV 10.x servers to migrate, which it is not finding as you do not have this product installed. Running the deployment wizard instead of the migration wizard should take care of this.

Unfortunently this is not the same.  I have used this wizard, but I have to take time to upload the package and it searches the network instead of adding individual IPs.  Not a big deal but the older one was much easier to deploy single clients on different networks.  Guess I will build an install package with Powershell if this is the only deployment wizard.  Thanks.

You can also add individual IP's using the deployment wizard or a text file with multiple IP's. When you get to the computer selection portion of the wizard select the search network tab then the find computers button at the bottom left. In the new window you can search for a indivdual IP/computer name or import a text file with multiple IP's.

Thanks,  yeah thats what i mean by searching the network.  I dunno I just liked the old one where I could simply type an IP address.  I do a lot of deployements to random IPs and like to do it on the fly don't wanna make a txt file.  Ill figrue something out thanks for the help.
