I am migrating Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (version 12.1.3001.165) from a Windows 2003 server to 2008 R2 (per article http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH199292).

To do this, I am following the steps suggested by SMLatCAST (on this post: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/moving-symantec-endpoint-protection-manager-one-server-another-server).

    1. I first created a backup of the old management server database (according to these instructions: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH160736&profileURL=https%3A%2F%2Fsymaccount-profile.symantec.com%2FSSO%2Findex.jsp%3FssoID%3D1425987728138I6HOVwBc58ibaXQA757N111XtH8839x2UT0Mf)
    2. Next, on the new server, after installing the management program, in the Management Server Configuration Wizard, I checked "Use a recovery file" then browsed to the backup file. However, after clicking "Next" it gives me the following Recovery File Error: "The recovery file data could not be loaded. A valid recovery file includes the settings properties file and the keystore .jks file. Check the recovery file, then try again." Thinking this may have something to do with it being a compressed file, I tried to unzip it, but only got the following Compressed (zipped) Folders Error: "The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted."

    Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Did you install the same version of  SEPM ? you can always use this method to connect your clients to new SEPM

How to deploy/update communication settings from your SEPM to your SEP clients machines with SEP 12.1 RU2 or newer

We have Version 12.1.671.4671. Apparently that is not an option on this version, because when I go to the Client Deployment Wizard, there isn't an option for Communication Update Package Deployment.

UPDATE: I installed the database and updated the license file, but there is still no trust relationship between the clients and the new server (which has a different name & IP). Now attempting to restore trust with the new server.
