This is a brand new installation of SEP 12. I noticed that everytime I lanuch SEPM, the Home page would say This program cannot display the webpage. When I refresh the screen, the page will become available again. The problem is the message only show the first time I launch it and it will disappear subsequently afterward. This also showed in other tabs as well, Reports and Policies.

You are launching SEPM directly from SEPM server or through some clients? Which browser and version are you using? Also tell us OS of the client and server.

Can you please confirm what DB you ar using with SEPM??

If you are using Enbedded DB then, This can occur when improper Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) settings are used in an Embedded Database, resulting in incorrect or failed communication between the console and the database.

This issue may be resolved by performing the following steps:

    1. Click Start Menu> Programs> Administrative Tools> Data Sources (ODBC)
    2. Click System DSN
    3. Select SymantecEndpointSecurityDSN
    4. Click Configure
    5. Select Database
    6. Enter your server's hostname in the "Server name" field
      • Enter the hostname, rather than the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN)
    7. Type sem5 in the "Database name" field
    8. Click OK
    9. Click OK
    10. Stop the "Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager" service
    11. Stop the "Symantec Embedded Database" service
    12. Start the "Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager" service
    13. Start the "Symantec Embedded Database" service
    14. Logon to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager console to view the results

please revert with your DB details, if it doesn't solves your problem..

Are you using special character in host name?
If yes, then remove it & check.

    Hello,

What OS are you uising on the SEPM server??

    Follow the steps below:

    1. Open Internet Explorer

    2. Go to Tools -> Internet Options

    3. Click on the Security Tab

    4. Click on Trusted Sites -> Sites

    5. Write "localhost" to "Add this website to the zone", deselect "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" and click "Add"

    6. Click Close, Click Ok

    7. Close and open SEPM

    Also, Try below steps:

Disable Enhanced Security for Internet Explorer

Note : before disabling Enhanced Security for IE browse following microsoft link :> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd883248%28WS.10%29.aspx

Directions to disable Enhanced Security for Internet Explorer for 2008 and 2011 are as follows :-

    • Open the Server Manager by going to Start > Server Manager
    • In the Server Manager browse to the Security Information section and click Configure IE ESC. In the figure below, IE ESC is located in the very lower right-hand corner of the window.

In the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration window decide for whom you want IE ESC enabled or disabled and click OK.

Run a Repair from Control Panel - Add/Remove program

    Hope that helps!!

This is a Windows 2008 R2 server and I was accessing it from the server console. SEPM is setup to use the embedded database. The server name is simple alphabet with not special characters.

I tried disabling the Enchaned Security for IE with server manager and add localhost to the trust site zone, but these didn't help.

I looked at the ODBC setting but was not able to locate the SymantecEndpointSecurityDSN even though it uses the embedded database.

    Any more idea? Thanks

Thanks, if I put in the IP address instead of localhost, it seems to work. Why?

    Hello Lastday,

No, the server name doesn't has any special character, just alphabet. As per Mithun's suggestion, it worked by entering the IP address instead of localhost on the logon screen. But I don't know why.

Check if your local DNS is having some problem resolving IP.

OK, it is the name resolution. The machine has a fixed IP assigned and it is not configured with any domain suffix search. I added the domain suffix in the domain suffix search list and it solved the problem. This meant that when setting up the server, we have to enter the FQDN hostname instead of the netbios name.

    Thanks again.
