I'm using Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2015 for Mac and try to edit the liveupdate.conf to reflect our network's proxy settings.

For some reason the settings won't stick, meaning that after starting LiveUpdate, the file reverts back to the default one without the proxy.

I already started the Mac in Single User Mode and edited the file from the command line but the result is the same...

    Hello,

    Check these Articles:

Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macintosh: customized liveupdate.conf settings do not persist

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH181537

Specifying a proxy server that clients use to communicate to Symantec LiveUpdate or an internal LiveUpdate server

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO81062

Proxies and compatibility with Java LiveUpdate and Symantec Endpoint Protection/Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH103527

And incase of UnManaged SEP MAC Client, add the web proxy settings manually to /etc/liveupdate.conf or configure then in the Macintosh OS Network settings. Do not do both--the Macintosh OS Network settings may override those in /etc/liveupdate.conf.

When LiveUpdate runs it reads /etc/liveupdate.conf and queries also the Macintosh OS Network configuration, and writes the combined settings to /Library/Application Support/Symantec/LiveUpdate/liveupdate.conf. Do not edit this file; it is overwritten every time LiveUpdate runs. But it can be checked along with liveupdt.log to see what proxy settings LiveUpdate used during its last run.

Review the following document: How to set proxy settings in Java LiveUpdate.

    Hope that  helps!!
