We are evaluating the Ghost Solution Suite and are wondering the following:
Is there a way to perform imaging jobs (both upload and download) on machines that are booted via PXE without needing to directly interact with the suite console?
Right now our imaging workflow (with a different solution) is as follows:
- Set a machine up in a state where it's ready to act as the master for an image
- Reboot the machine to PXE
- Upload the image to our server by typing a short command on a console prompt (on the local computer, not the server)
- Boot the machine(s) to PXE that we want to apply the image to
- Download the image to the local drive by typing another short command on a console prompt (again on the local computer, not the server)
This workflow is of course lacking in the multitude of features that the Ghost Suite offers, but on the flipside it's very easy to reason about and deal with in the field. It would be nice if we could start with a similar workflow and then opt-in to Ghost's features over time instead of making a massive leap to the kitchen-sink solution all at once.
Maybe there's a way to force PXE clients in to a debug or command-line mode that would allow us to reasonably replicate our current workflow?
Thanks in advance!
