I have been using the Ghost server on version 11.5 for the last few years and we have now purchased Ghost Suite 3.1 MP4. I have installed it on a Windows 2012 SR2 VM. With the old version it worked smoothly by launching the ghost server and then starting the TFTP server and the PXE server. I can't seem to get anything similiar to that to work with the new version. I have tried a number of things and watch a number of videos. Can anyone point me in the direction of how I can get this to work. I have followed these articles: https://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/creating-pxe-boot-image-ghostcasting-ghost-solution-suite-3
https://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/image-creation-legacy-ghostcasting-ghost-solution-suite-3, https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO124443.html I am not sure if my problem is that on the GSS tab everything is grayed out. See screenshot.

Thanks in advance for help and suggestions.

    jbusch,

Navigate to the top left of the PXE menu and select File->Choose PXE Server, then select shared configuration. This should open up the options you are trying to modify.

Sorry for the delay. Yes that did make the options available but there were no other choices available so I am still having the same problem in that I can't seem to get the PXE option to work or I am missing a key step. Thanks again.

    Jbusch,

I am not sure what you mean about there not being any other choices available?

Did you follow this tutorial to the "t"

    https://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/creating-pxe-boot-image-ghostcasting-ghost-solution-suite-3.

    How is PXE not working?

Do you receive a DHCP retry error? This means you are missing network drivers, please see the below documentation.

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO124400

Does your machine just boot to windows? Check your bios boot options and verify it is set to pxe or manually select f12 during boot and boot to the network.

    Any other errors seen?

Yes I did follow these directions to the "t" I even went through it again. I am sure I am doing something wrong but not sure what. Also I did notice that under scope in the article it shows shared mine says local see attachment.

It gets an IP but the error is TFTP timeout.

    Thanks

    jbusch,

What do you see when you boot to pxe?

Are your client machines on a different VLAN/subnet than your PXE server?

The scopes you see are normal.

When I boot to the pxe it gets an ip address and then ties to connect via TFTP and that times out and goes to the next boot option. It is not on the same vlan but is on the same vlans as my current Ghost server is running which is running 11.5. To get my 11.5 to work I ruin a batch file that starts ghostsrv.exe and either points to where my image file is or to the location that it is being created to with the image file name. I then start the PXE Server service and the PXE server and everything works. I have also tried disconnecting my current server from the network and trying the GSS 3.1 server with the same results.

    Jbusch,

For PXE to work across Vlan's you will need to use i.p helpers or scope options to help pass traffic across the dhcp server.

    Option 1: Using IP Helpers
PXE not crossing subnets or VLANs
    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH12651.html

Option 2: Manually Setting DHCP Scope Options
    Vendor-specific PXE Forced Mode
    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO7071.html

Once way to test your pxe is to take a client and put it on the same subnet as your pxe server. IE 192.168.2.XX.

Also if you were using 3com PXE with Ghost 2.5 then you will need to turn off that service or it will cause issues with the current pxe configuration.

    Brycen,

Thanks for the help I tried following your suggestions without any luck. I am currently working on using a USB stick to boot to so I can try I get things working as I haven't been able to get the PXE working. I hope to revisit this in the future when there are less demands if possible. Thanks for your suggestions and help.

    jbusch,

Were you able to follow the steps above (i.p.helpers or scope options) to get your pxe booting across networks?
