  • 1.  QChain no longer needed for Patch Management for Windows 7.1 SP1

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed but the "Download QChain" task is no longer to be found in the latest version of Patch Management for Windows, which is 7.1 SP1 (7.1.2307, sometimes referred to as 7.1 SP1a).  I didn't find anything mentioning this in the Release Notes (http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3922) or in the User Guide (http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3954) so I opened a Support incident as I thought I would need to repair the Patch for Windows Solution.  The technician informed me that "Qchain is no longer present on SP1 so you don’t need to repair the product."

Anybody else know anything more about this?

    Thanks,

They developed their own "Qchain" method since they have so many other non-Microsoft patches they new support. (I think close to 20) Then needed a way to "qchain" non-MS Patches.

QChain.exe functionality is included in all Windows XP and Windows 2000 updates that were released since May 18, 2001 - we just finally got around to taking out of the product...:)
