  • 1.  Question about the default policy

    Posted Jun 30, 2017 11:07 AM

    Good Morning,

We currently run SEP unmanaged on both desktops and servers. Before we move them over to managed I have a couple of questions about the polices. As I'm looking throught default ones and thinking about creating custom ones I'm really unsure where to start. Is the default policy basically the same as running the unmanaged SEP installation and leaving all the defaults? I need to know where I'm starting with the default so I can figure out what the appropriate options are.

    Thanks

With the unmanaged client, the user has full control over it to make changes as they please.

With the managed client and the default policy, the client is in server mode, which means everything is controlled via the policy in SEPM.

Now, with that being said, if you look at the default AV policy, all of the lock icons are open, which means the end user can still make changes so you'll need to decide if this is what you want or you'll need to close those locks they cann't make changes.

Thanks for the resonse. I understand the concept of controlling it from a manager and I understand that users can or cannot change settings depending on how I set them.

My question is how does the defaul policy compare settings wise to a default install of the stand alone client. If I was doing an apples to apples comparison of a computer that had a default install of the unmanaged client to one with the managed client using the default policies in the manager would they be the same?

    Thanks

Yes, for the most part they are very close from what I can see in comparing my default unmanaged install to my default managed policy.

There isn't a direct comparison that I've seen where someone documented each similarity and difference though. This would be too time consuming and this hasn't been a question that's come up on here very often.
