  • 1.  Rapid Staging of a Site Server - 7.1

    Hello,

This is my first post so forgive me if I miss some protocols.  I'm am trying to find a way to rapidly stage a site server.  We need to be able to set up a site server in 1 day or less (preferrably 2 - 4 hours).  Currently, it takes too long (48 - 72 hours) after the site server creation, for all the packages and the image to download from the SMP.  We'd like to do this rapidly, by manually copying the packages and image to the new site server, eliminating the need for them to be downloaded.  We've attempted this by creating and sharing the Package Delivery folder under C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Package Delivery, and then manually copying all of the "packages" from another site server (using a prestaged USB hard drive).  (We've also created and shared the Deployment folder). Then we've installed the package service.  After the appropriate check-ins, the packages still download from the SMP.  Altiris doesn't seem to be able to just check that the package codebases are already there and set them to a satus of "Ready".  Has anoyone successfully done this, and how?

    Thanks in Advance

    Hi Kenc1

    1. Stop the Symantec Management Agent Service on the Site Server
    2. Delete all the Snapshot.xml Files in the Package Delivery Folder on your Site Server
    3. Start the Symantec Management Agent Service on the Site Server

Now all your Packages should only replicate the previosly deleted snapshot.xml File and not the whole Package.

    Hope this solves the problem

    Hello,

the fast way to enroll site server is:

    1)Add site server in console

    2)Full policy & membership update

3)Update client policy on site server

4)wait while all plugins will be installed(agent will restart 1-2-3 times, it depends from quontity of plugins that must be installed)

    5)Send basic inventory

    6)wait a little

    7)Full policy & membership update

8)Update client policy on site server

9)check that all site server policys applied(task and package server)

I'm using this procedure for quick site server enrollment, if  all is right with the network bandwith it will take near 10-15 minutes to install site server components and to download packages.
