Hi, We are using PGP encryption in our company. I am not able to boo my operating system.. When I enter the Symentec PGP password it authenticate me, then it starts windows 7 and just give me recovery options. I tried recovery options but still no luck. I have too much important data in my HDD I dont want to loose this data.. What is the way to recover my data? The disk PGP encrypted so I cant take backup of my HDD by connecting it to another server.. Support team in our compnay told that PGP is not decrypting so we can do anything, I need to replace HDD.

Do you have any points?? which I use to resolve this issue... Please help me to recover my data.

    I am rphrasing my problem:

Hi, We are using Syemtentec PGP encryption in our company. I am not able to boot my Windows-7 operating system. When I start myt laptop it asks me to enter Symentec PGP password, then it authenticate me and starts windows 7 loading, in few seconds it just give me recovery options. I tried all recovery options but still no luck. I have too much important data in my HDD so I dont want to loose this data. What is the way to recover my data?

This disk is PGP encrypted so I cant take backup of my HDD by connecting it to another server. Support team in our compnay has already told me that PGP is not decrypting as HDD is crashed, so we cant do anything, I have to replace my HDD. I am not stisfied with ther remarks and dont want looes my data.

Do you have any points?? which I use to resolve this issue... Please help me to recover my data.

Best way is to plug the HDD into another machine that has PGP installed.  Then you should be able to access the drive through that computers explorer.  You'll then just be able to type in the password when PGP detects its WDE and you should have access to that drive.

Hey , Thanks for reply, I have doubt..
Oh.. I have HDD in my Leneovo T420 Laptop, So do you mean I should connect that HDD by using some sorts of cable to another laptop? but still I need to decrypt that HDD right? or by entering just password it will allow me to access the data?

That's correct, but that machine needs to have PGP installed.

Hi, Thanks Alex,I did not got any USB casing to place my HHD in it, so I tired with recovery disk:

    1. Boot the system with the recovery disk.
    2. When prompted, press any key to continue. Drive Encryption Recovery searches for user records and prompts to press any key when the records are found.
    3. Press any key to continue.
    4. On the PGP BootGuard screen, enter the passphrase and user name, if required.
    5. Press D to decrypt the drive. Drive Encryption Recovery starts decrypting your disk.

It took around 9hrs to decrypt my disk, one decryption completed sucessfully, I pressed a key. I was showing me message of "Error in loading operating system..."

I restarted my machine, but after restart it is again asking me for PGP pass phrase. When I entered that "There was the olde blac scrren..."

In PGP boot guard screen --> advanced --> it was still showing me HDD is 99% encrypted..???? Why it is still showing me that 99% disk is still encrypted? I have already did decryption by using live CD, got messages "Decryption completed sucessfully" still it is showing me HDD is decrypted?

Any points on this strange behaviour ?

    Hi Alex,

Thanks, but I did not got any USB HDD casing to connect my HDD to another machine, What I did, I used recovery disk...

I started recovery with disk and it got completed after 8 hrs. I got message "Drive decryption complted,

Press any key to contineuo " I pressed a key and it was showing me message like "Error in loading operating system..."

I rebooted my system, again it was asking me password at PGP boot guard screen, I clicked on Advanced Tab which is there on the PGP boot guard screen, it was showing me "HDD is 99% Decrypted"..

How is it possible, if the HDD is still decyrpted then what was showing it earlier after recovery disk? Is there any flaw in the process? or PGP is not working properly? I just want to backup my all data..

Guys, please comment on this, why it still says me that your disk is 99% encrypted..?

Did you use the correct image for the version you have?  You must use the same recovery disk for the version you have installed:

    Hi Alex,

I have 10.2.1 PGP installed on my old HDD and I have used 10.3.1 PGP to decrypt my HDD. So is this causing any issue?

    Hi Alex, Good Morning,

10.2.1 Bulild (4869), worked! Now my HDD dont asks me any PGP password at boot time.

I guess it's PGP has been decrypted sucessfully.

So now the latest status is that, I able to manage one SATA--> USB cable. I have connected my HDD to my another Think Pad, now I able to see my HDD in My Computer but not able to access it.

It is visible in Device Manager also, but says it has RAW partition table.

I am attaching one screen shot of it, Please have a look.

OK so it looks like you have successfully decrypted it.  I'm not sure why you're unable to access it.  You might need to rebuild the MBR on the disk, as I think that's the issue you've currently got.  If you have the ability, I suggest you clone that drive before doing any other activities to make sure you have a copy of the data incase anything goes wrong.
