  • 1.  refreshing software inventory

    Hello

My software inventory appears to be a bit of a mess and I'm trying to find a way to clean it up.

I have a full scan running each week and a hardware and software delta scan running each day. i also created a full scan job in DS7.1 and I've successfully run that as well.

THe main problem I'm seeing at the moment is the antivirus reports. If I run the "Count of computers with or without Anti-virus software" report 29 machines are listed as having sophos and 5 are listed as having no virus protection at all. They all have sophos on them.

If I run the "Add or remove programs search report" and get it to search for sophos, it returns only nine machines as having the software. This includes the 5 machines listed in the report above as having no AV at all. Two of the machines in this report are listed as running the old version (V7 as opposed to V9 which is the current version). I've since upgraded them and run software and full inventory scans a number of times but the report won;t update to show the proper version. if I bring up the resource manager on one of the machines reporting as having V7 and click on Software Summary, installed software and Add Remove program are reporting V7, but Installed File Details lists both V7 and V9 files.

In searching these forums I found that Inventory Solution V6 had a /cleanbeforerun option you could use to clean out the old inventory before sending the new. I'm trying to find this or the equivilant in V7?

I'm also trying to create a Targeted Software Inventory task that will look for a specific V9 file as that seemed like another possible solution.

As we approach the deadline for testing V7, any thoughts would be appreciated! :)

I found that if I downloaded and installed the Symantec Endpoint Protection management plugin for NS, I was able to use its Antivirus Inventory policy to report on what was installed on our clients. I thought it would only report on symantec products but was incorrect. So that helped considerably

Support was able to track don a KBA outlining that the /cleanbeforerun functionality of inventory solution V6 is not available in V7.

    But there are workarounds.
