    Hi,

We've got a project to replace the hard drives in our site servers at remote locations, and was looking into using a machine of the same model in my office to do a fresh install on, then ship out, and have a tech in the location just swap the disk.

In testing, I'm seeing the client setting itself up with the previous install's machine GUID, which is expected. However,  I've tried aexagentutil.exe /resetguid, but it goes back to the old one. The Merged records report does not show that it is being merged.

      Is there anyway around this?

    HI cbcb.

I've done the same here. I gonna describe bellow all process I've done.

     - I've created an image Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard, updated the OS, install few programs and also installed the altiris agent, plugins and only Package service. After the PS installation, I waited to the packages and images replication and in the end I run the sysprep and captured the image to distribute to the others hard drivers later. After the image caputure done, don't forget to delete the Site Server machine from your Altiris console to not create duplicated resources.

    - After deploy the image caputured to a new HD, I turn the new machine on and did few configurations, such as set the ip address and dns, replicate new packages, etc. Don't install the task and deployment service, don't change the machine name and don't add the machine into the domain. When you finish, turn off the machine and delete the Site server machine from your Altiris console.

    - When the HDs arrives in your site, turn off the old site server first. Then, delete this site server from your Altiris console, change the HD and turn the machine on. When the machine goes up, change the machine name and add in your domain. When the Altiris be OK, install the PS and wait to the site server indentify the packages, etc. After that, you can install the task and deployment service.

I've done this process in aproximatelly 40 servers. No duplicated guids, no duplicated Windows, no problems!

I hope this process can helps you.

    Regards,

Nice! Thank you! Will have to tweak a few things for the way we've got it setup, but should be manageable.
